Johannesburg to Cape Town Itinerary

Day 1:

Morning arrival in South Africa. Your guide will meet you upon arrival at Johannesburg’s O R Tambo International Airport. Depart directly to Pretoria for a city tour that includes the Voortrekker Monument, Paul Kruger House, Church Square and Union Buildings. Overnight at Muldersdrift, just outside Pretoria. Dinner will be served at the famous "Carnivore" restaurant, which is one of only two of its kind in the world. 


Day 2

Accommodation: Protea Hotel Hazyview (3 Star)

Meals: Breakfast & Dinner

Travel via Middleburg, Dullstroom, Lydenburg and Sabie (Long Tom Pass) to Hazyview situated in the province of Mpumalanga. Early afternoon arrival at your hotel. Depending on availability - Enjoy an evening of African culture with singing, dancing and dinner at Shangana, a traditional Shangaan village, meet the chief with his 3 wives and 36 children. Overnight in Hazyview.


Day 3

Accommodation: Protea Hotel Hazyview (3 Star)

Visit the old gold rush town of Pilgrim’s Rest a museum in its entirety. Lunch at the famous Harries Pancakes restaurant. Travel the "Panorama Route" of the majestic Drakensberg Mountains, admire the natural beauty of the Blyde River Canyon - the third deepest canyon in the world, Bourke`s Luck Potholes and God’s Window. Overnight in Hazyview.


Day 4

Accommodation: Satara Camp (3 Star)

Meals: Breakfast


Depart for the world-renowned Kruger National Park (KNP), visit Moholoholo Animal Rehabilitation Center and Hoedspruit Endangered Species Centre (Kapama Cheetah Breeding & Research Centre). Enter the KNP through Orpen Gate, spend the rest of the day in the KNP. Dinner can be enjoyed at the camp’s restaurant. Overnight in the KNP. 


Day 5

Accommodation: Lower Sabie Camp (3 Star)

Optional Activities: Evening or sunset open vehicle safari with the parks ranger


A full day in the KNP in search of the “Big 5” and a host of other animals. The KNP is known to be the most diverse park in the world with 140 mammals, 119 reptiles, ± 506 bird, 55 amphibians and ± 1980 plant species. Travel to the southern part of the KNP. Your guide will cook you a traditional “braai”- barbeque. Overnight in the KNP. 


Day 6

Accommodation: Lalapanzi Lodge (4 Star)

Meals: Breakfast & Dinner


Today we travel through the mountain kingdom of Swaziland to Zululand. Lunch along the way. Overnight on a private game reserve situated near the small town of Hluhluwe. Dinner will be served at the camp’s restaurant. Overnight at Bonamanzi.


Day 7

Accommodation: Lalapanzi Lodge (4 Star)

This morning you have an option of joining the ranger on a game walk, rest of the morning at leisure. This afternoon we travel to the Hluhluwe / Umfolozi Game Reserve for an exciting open vehicle safari, in by-gone years this reserve was the hunting grounds of Zulu Kings. Dinner will be served at the camp’s restaurant. Overnight on Bonamanzi.


Day 8

Accommodation: Shakaland (4 Star)

Meals: Breakfast & Dinner


Take a cruise on the St Lucia estuary, a lake riddled with crocodiles and hippos in the Greater St Lucia Wetlands, which is one of South Africa's six UNESCO world heritage sites. Depart after the cruise to Shakaland for lunch and then we check into the hotel. This afternoon there is an included guided tour through the village and in the evening you will witness Zulu hospitality at its best with a traditional Zulu festival. Dinner will be served at the hotel. Overnight in the heart of Zululand.    


Day 9

Accommodation: Protea Hotel Marina (4 Star)

Depart to Durban for a city tour and lunch at a restaurant in town (Ushaka Marine World), before we catch our afternoon flight to Port Elizabeth (PE). There will be time on the way to our hotel for a tour of this interesting city. Evening at leisure and we overnight in PE on the waterfront of "Mandela Bay".


Day 10

Accommodation: Protea Hotel Knysa Quays (4 Star)

Meals: Breakfast & Dinner


Travel along the "Garden Route" to Knysna. Visit the “Big Tree”, Bloukrans and the Storms river mouth suspension bridge in the Tsitsikamma National Park. Dinner will be served at the Dry Dock restaurant on the Knysna Waterfront. Overnight in Knysna, which has been voted in a number of times  as "the best little town in South Africa".


Day 11

Accommodation: Protea Hotel Knysna Quays (4 Star)

A morning at leisure. This afternoon we take the ferry across the lagoon to the Featherbed Nature Reserve for a 4 x 4 trailer-ride tour and if you like, a hike through the reserve. Overnight in Knysna.


Day 12

Accommodation: Queens Hotel (4 Star)

Meals: Breakfast & Lunch


Travel via the "Outeniqua Pass" to Oudtshoorn in the Klein Karoo (semi desert area) a 60km drive that reflects the great diversities of nature South Africa has to offer. Visit the Cango Caves, Cango Wildlife Ranch and Safari Ostrich Farm with lunch included on the farm - guess what's on the menu? Overnight in Oudtshoorn.


Day 13

Accommodation: Protea Hotel President (4 Star)

Today we drive to Cape Town via Riversdale, Swellendam and Hermanus in the whaling season, as Hermanus is known to have "the best land based whale watching in the world". The rest of the year (Dec - May) we will travel along the scenic "Route 62". Optional and weather permitting - we take the cableway up Table Mountain. Evening at leisure. Overnight in Cape Town.


Day 14

Take a scenic drive around the "Cape Peninsula". Visit Hout Bay and the Cape Fur Seal colony on Duiker Island, Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve, Cape of Good Hope, Cape Point and the Boulders - Penguins. Have lunch at one of the numerous restaurants in Simonstown. Overnight in Cape Town


Day 15

A day at leisure, where you can do the following optional activities - a city orientation tour of South Africa’s beautiful Mother City on the “hop-on hop-off bus” or visit a local township or visit Robben Island where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned for 17 years or visit to Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens or visit one of the numerous beautiful beaches around the Cape or for the energetic - take a hike up Table Mountain or for the brave - shark cage diving. Evening at leisure. Overnight in Cape Town.


Day 16

Wine tastings and a cellar tour at various wine estates along the Cape’s world-renowned Stellenbosch Wine Route, also visit the quaint historical towns of Stellenbosch and Franschhoek. Enjoy sundowners on Signal Hill before your farewell dinner at the famous Vijff Vlieghen (Five Flies) Restaurant. Overnight in Cape Town.


Day 17

Morning at leisure. Time for last minute shopping and lunch at the V & A Waterfront, weather permitting you can do an optional helicopter flight over the "Cape Peninsula". Transfer to Cape Town International Airport in order for you to catch your connecting flight or flight home.
