  • A self-catering, private bush camp has been built on the Shayamoya Reserve at a stunning spot under the big Tamboti and Marula trees.
  • A small watering hole encourages the animals to drink close by and even the Buffalo come cruising by inquisitively (there is an electric fence for guests protection).
  • The camp is solar and gas energised so the ladies can have a hot shower and the beers stay cold!
  • Only 4x4 vehicles can access the camp. If you do not have a 4x4, the lodge will assist in transferring you to the camp.
  • Due to the presence of the Big 3, it is not advised to walk around the bush.
  • Private vehicles are not permitted to traverse the property beyond the camp. Game drives can be arranged via the reception. Alternatively you can visit the KZN Ezemvelo Game Reserves in your private vehicle.
  • Tiger Fishing, Boat cruises and Bow Hunting can also be arranged from Reception.
  • Guests can enjoy meals served at our game lodge restaurant.
  • The neighbouring SPA offers a variety of pamperings.
  • The camp is serviced daily.
  • Linen and kitchen utensils are supplied.
  • Wood is supplied for the duration of your stay. Please use wood sparingly. We do not encourage big bon fires. If on the occasion you require more wood, an extra load is provided @ R100.
  • No music is to be played as this is a wilderness experience.

Tiger Fishing

Tiger Fishing Pongolo Bush CampTiger fishing is the truly exciting activity, which we offer. These ferocious fighting game fish are rare to South African waters however enjoy these sub tropical conditions. Good sizes have been caught in the Pongolapoort Lake where the official record is 8.3kg. There is also a ranch dam, which is stocked with bass as well as tiger fish. The lodge has a good selection of fishing rods and tackle for hire, but bring your own fly rods and tackle. Fishing trips are conducted in a 16ft Hustler (Max 2 anglers) and 18ft Dorado (Max 3 anglers).

 

The rates below include boat hire, guide and fuel.

Hours: Summer Half Day: 5:30am - 11am or 2 - 7pm, Winter Half Day: 8 - 1pmDeparting from the Lodge at 5:30am or 2pm in Summer and 8am in Winter.Rods up at 10am, 12am or 6pm to allow for the return transfer to the Lodge.

Boat hire includes one of our talented and enthusiastic guides who skippers the boat and shows you the know-how and hot spots on the Pongolapoort Lake. 

 

Game Drives

An open landcruiser comfortably seating 10 people is used for these events. The morning game drive departs between 6am and 7am seasonally. The afternoon game drive departs between 3pm and 4pm. The drives are 3hrs of fantastic bush experience where our rangers enlighten you on all aspects of nature.Game drives take place on the Phongolo Nature Reserve, the neighboring National Reserve, which is the first Reserve to be proclaimed in Africa by Paul Kruger in 1894. The Reserve has an excellent population of wild life from white rhino, wildebeest, zebra, warthog, giraffe to a wide variety of antelope.

A 3 hour drive conducted in the open Landcruisers comfortably seating 9 people.

Boat Cruises

Bush Camp PongolaA must when visiting Lake Jozini to experience the wonderful birdlife and wildlife on the water’s edge. The 3 hour excursion on the canopied 12 seater viewing boat. 

 

Summer 4pm departures. Winter 8am departures. R300 p/p

 

Birding

The area is an extremely rich and rewarding birding destination, boasting around 400 species of birds. Lodge has a wide variety of exciting birding habitats on offer most of which is typical Zululand Thornveld. Birding is enjoyed either on the game drive, boat cruise where a fascinating variety of water birds are seen from the water, and guided walks with our experienced game rangers. 

 

Rhino Tracking

Conducted on the neighboring property – you meet your guide at the Mvubu Lodge who can mix the walk up with more a drive depending on your interests and fitness level.No children under 16 years allowed. Maximum number of people is 8 per activity.Advanced notice is preferable.
