2 Week Wildlife Safari from JohannesburgOur most popular safari package. Based from our home reserve we also visit other private game reserves and the Kruger national Park to ensure you can experience a variety of lodges and wildlife opportunities. This safari provides a perfect balance between big five game viewing and a chance to gain a better understanding or be involved with wildlife conservation. As well as opportunities to explore our home reserve in the company of wildlife conservationists. Of-course there is also time for some R&R to sit back, relax and enjoy the African bush.

Whether your preference is just general wildlife or something specific, be hands on, or sit back and let us take the strain, whatever you prefer we'll do our best to provide.

Everyone hopes to see the infamous big five when on Safari (Rhino, Elephant, Lion, Leopard and Buffalo), and of-course soak up the atmosphere, sights and sounds of Africa. We aim to provide all those things (mother nature permitting), but more than that, we want you to gain an insight into the real African bush. For example, to understand what a Leopard track looks like and how it is just like a finger print, or what the barking noise you heard during the night meant (alarm call of a bush buck, who knows a predator is around), or what that smell of pop corn means as you pass a bush (female leopard in oestrous). And even more, we provide opportunities for you to be involved with our work in conservation and particularly with Leopards. Meet and be involved with conservationists, help to set trail cameras to monitor the nightly happenings, or just simply take time to sit viewing an Elephant understanding its behaviour and the heard dynamics.

Of-course a safari wouldn’t be a safari without enjoying the quality accommodation and fantastic venues that are included in each of our tours.

Johannesburg roundtrip wildlife safari

We will be waiting for you on arrival at Johannesburg airport and your safari starts then. Don't worry about the time of your arrival, we will meet you, it's all part of the service. This gives you flexibility to find the best flight deal.

We know that its important to be able to plan your safari costs and avoid any hidden extras. Quite simply, we don't believe in hidden extras, where possible we provide an all inclusive price and any additions to that one off price are clearly shown on your itinerary. These tend to be minor things that are out of our control such as the entry fee into the Kruger National Park which you pay directly at the gate, but we can let you know those costs before you arrive.

14 Day Overland Tour From Johannesburg - Itinerary

Day 1

Pick up at Johannesburg Airport (O R Tambo International) and transfer to Black Leopard Camp near Lydenburg. A luxury tented camp, with stylish lavishly appointed bedrooms each with inside and outside private bathrooms. We should arrive in time for a dip in the pool overlooking the mountain gorge, before afternoon tea and time to rest and recuperate. The evening meal will be taken in the tree top dining room after which you can relax by an open fire in the well-appointed lapa.

Day 2

Two week overland tour of South AfricaYou are woken with an invigorating cup of coffee before setting off on the morning game drive that also includes our unique bush senses experience. This is an activity that we have developed over many years and has proved very popular with our safari guests. In a fun way it encourages you to use all of your senses when in the bush. Not just sight, but also smell, hearing and touch. Some of our senses are dulled by modern living but this simple and fun exercise quickly hones ones bush senses - deal preparation for any safari.

Brunch is followed by time to relax and enjoy the views from Black Leopard Camp or perhaps take a soak in your luxurious, private outside bath with mountain gorge views. When the heat of the day has faded a little, you join our rangers learning to track leopards and other predators within the Thaba Tholo Reserve, where the Ingwe Leopard team are monitoring the resident leopard population.

Day 3

Morning game drive before brunch, game viewing within the reserve. Late afternoon sighting of camera traps before dinner. This is the point when you  can put all you have learnt so far into action.  Guided by the Ingwe team you are able to consider and select places along game trails that you feel are likely spots to photograph the local leopards as they roam during the forthcoming nights. Leopard movement and territorial behaviour changes almost on a daily basis and is dependent on many factors, making this a fascinating and fun exercise and rightfully invites you to feel and become part of the Ingwe team. Return to camp for drinks and dinner.

Day 4

Two week Johannesburg wildlife safariBreakfast and then a morning game drive through the reserve and transfer to the 40,000 hectare Balule Game Reserve arriving in time for a late lunch. An afternoon game drive within the reserve returns to the lodge for a four course dinner.

Day 7

South African 14 day safariAfter breakfast we will visit our friends at the Moholoholo Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre, to see some of the wonderful work they do in conserving wildlife. Then transfer to the exclusive ThornyBush Game Reserve. On arrival there will be time to settle in before high tea and an evening game drive in the ThornyBush Reserve, returning to the lodge for a sumptuous dinner in the main lapa. ThornyBush provides a lovely sedate bush atmosphere, with personal and friendly service.  As one disembarks from the afternoon game drive a lovely glass is waiting for you as a pre dinner aperitif. Wood that has fallen or been removed on the reserve for land management purposes is burned to heat water for your bathroom. A renewable source of fuel that augments the sustainable ethos that prevails, a truly sustainable and wonderful relaxing haven.

Day 8

Early morning wake-up and an invigorating cup of fresh coffee in the lounge. You will then set off on an early morning game drive. We hope to check out scenes from the previous evenings events; however, each safari offers a new exciting experience. The early morning game drive will return to the lodge for breakfast, after which guests have the option of taking an accompanied bush walk. An opportunity to trail in the ThornyBush game reserve is an experience that will never be forgotten. The trail will return for a well-deserved rest during the heat of the day, where there will be time to relax or enjoy the plunge pool overlooking the waterhole, which is often host to zebra, buffalo, giraffe, elephant, rhino. The afternoon game drive will start after high tea and will cover previously unseen areas of the reserve.

Time permitting we will take the chance to take a short bush walk from the vehicle, before returning to the lodge for a late breakfast. Transfer to the Blyde River Wilderness Lodge. An afternoon to relax and enjoy this beautiful location alongside the river where Hippo and Crocodiles are often seen.
