The stunning location of the lodge was once home to the Bushmen and today many of their ancient cave paintings are still clearly visible on the rocks (some dating back 6,000 yrs).

This spiritual land offers spectacular scenery, majestic mountains and phenomenal night skies, where the Milky Way, billions of stars, planets, satellites and shooting stars may be seen by the naked eye.

The Nature Reserve is located in an untouched wilderness area three hours from Cape Town and near Ceres, South Africa. The reserve is well known for its scenic beauty and dramatic rock formations typical of the Cederberg; has a rich cultural heritage and is a unique safari in South Africa. On our San Cultural Tour guests can appreciate the ancient Bushman living-sites first hand and get an in-depth interpretation of the rock paintings from one of our expert guides.

Bushman Lodge

Bushman Lodge offers a choice of accommodation; there are five spacious en-suite thatched rondavels/huts, suitable for families with children.

There are also ten unique 'cave suites' built against the sandstone rock formations; these have a private terrace, en suite bathrooms and twin or king size beds. The buildings blend perfectly with the surrounding landscape, to the point of almost being invisible.

The lodge has a restaurant for breakfast and lunch and an outdoor lapa for dinner under the starlit night skies.

There is a cozy bar and an outdoor garden perfect for relaxing and sipping a cool drink. Interesting rock formations surround the sparkling swimming pool.

A well-stocked curio shop is available to purchase that essential souvenir of your stay.

Open Air Rooms - R750 - Optional Extra

Situated on a remote rocky outcrop far away from the lodge, this ideal shelter is now home to the first “down on the ground” luxury sleep out. No need to try to brave the stones under your sleeping bag and having to go through a whole mission to get to the bush! While you are checked in at our lodge you can simply choose to sleep outside if the weather permits. With the typical crisp clear night skies of the region, this promises to feel like drifting off to the Milky Way!

Guests can choose to either have a picnic basket for dinner or depart to the outcrop after dinner at the lodge. A glowing fire and cold drinks of your choice will be waiting!

Activities at the Bushman lodge:

On guided open 4x4 safaris guests will learn more about the various species of plants and animals that inhabit this arid area, marvel at the Southern night skies through a powerful telescope and enjoy a sun downer with spectacular views from the escarpment into the Ceres-Karoo lying 700m lower.

Guided quad bike safaris take you to some remote, inaccessible parts of the reserve – adventure at its best. Spend your free time on one of our hiking trails, bird watching or relaxing at the lodge's swimming pool built into the stunning Cederberg rock formations.

Our Health and Beauty Spa offers a wide range of wellness treatments including deluxe manicures and pedicures, hot stone therapy and soothing facials.

Mountain Bike Riders can expect to see the majestic beauty of the Cederberg mountains from their mountain bikes on Kagga Kamma`s spectacular circular route.

Although quite sandy in some patches most of the route is rideable for the average rider and they have an option between the long route (black) of 30km or taking the short cut (red) of 10km.

The route comprises of mostly jeep track although it starts off and ends with a challenging single track built through the natural terrain. The total ascent of the long route is only 300m, but because of the tough terrain this remains quite a challenge for even the experienced riders.

Riders can expect to be in the saddle between 2 and 3 hours depending on fitness levels. Enjoy a the wide variety of wildlife game including Springbok, Zebra and Eland amongst others during the ride.

Experience the quiet tranquillity that only the Cederberg Mountains has to offer

Facilities and extras

Accommodations at the luxurious game lodge are nestled between incredible sandstone formations and resemble bushman "caves" and rondavels, all with en-suite bathrooms.

In the open-air boma restaurant, guests can enjoy sumptuous South African cuisine and an excellent selection of wines from the nearby Cape Winelands.

The recently revamped conference facilities are equipped with state of the art equipment which includes a data projector, screen, microphone, voice recorder, speaker and amplifier and Wi-Fi Hot Spots.

This beautiful venue can accommodate up to 25 delegates in any seating configuration making it the ideal setting for hard work during the day and lots of outdoor activities to choose from to take a break.
