South Africa food and drink

The cooking here is sometimes called 'rainbow cuisine', as the food in this region is a blend of many cultures. For the carnivore there is ample sustenance to be found from a multiplicity of wild and farmed meat best consumed outside from the ubiquitous ‘braai’ (barbeque).

South Africa is home to a growing number of wine farms, and there are between 800 and 1000 at present. These estates, often with historical backgrounds in viticulture, occupy the areas closest to the coast, along the Western and Southern Cape, and going inland as far as Klein Karoo. If beer is your tipple, you are in the right place as it is the most popular alcoholic beverage in Southern Africa and breweries can be found in every country. Sit in a bar in Maseru and a local Maluti will be one of the best beers you've ever tasted. A day’s safari is best concluded with a cold Zambezior a refreshing Windhoek lager.
